For using the Servers, please make sure you are using an updated server list like from peerates or gruk. When you open eMule just click on the left corner button Connect and *wait* or tick Autoconnect on startup in Options - Connection. The Contacts list (1) shows you all Kad contacts your eMule knows and stores in its routing tables.
